Spotlight – National Youth Theatre

The National Youth Theatre is helmd by Owen Jackson, graduate of Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica. The group has staged several productions in Antigua and Barbuda and in other parts of the Caribbean. Those productions have proven to be popular, with plays like ‘After 9/11’ earning numerous awards at the Caribbean Secondary Schools Drama Festival in 2007. Most recently, in 2011, Jackson announced playwrighting workshops under the umbrella of the Culture Department of which the NYT is a part. Made up of young people from different parts of the island, the group’s motto, according to its Facebook page is: “Creating, Preserving, Reviving the Cultural Artistic Expression of our people.”
