Eye Scream!

The Cushion Club is a kid’s reading club that I and others (notably Cedric Holder and this couple of years, Peace Corps volunteer Ina Howe) have volunteered with here in Antigua and Barbuda for a number of years now. Wow, it’s been between 10 and 15 years now, maybe more; and we’ve moved around a fair amount…and will be again, come September 2012. Over the years, we’ve read books by Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), Ashley Bryan (Dancing Granny), Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre), Jewell Parker Rhodes (Ninth Ward), Althea Prince (How the East Pond Got Its Flowers) and others (European fairytales to Caribbean folk tales, Beauty and the Beast to Anansi). But it’s not all about books at the Cushion Club as these pictures from our 2012 end of year (school year, that is) ice cream party demonstrate…and yes I’ve been MIA from the CC much of the past year (and change) but I did make the ice cream party. What? Did somebody say Iiiiiccce Cream!

But of course most of the time we’re about the books.

So when we resume in September (as we do every September), albeit in a new location, we’ll be anticipating more books, more volunteers, more good reading fun. For more of the Cushion Club through the years, check our original Cushion Club post.
