Hands Across the Sea was one of our prize donors in 2013 – contributing US$500 worth of books each to the primary and secondary schools with the most submissions to that year’s Wadadli Pen Challenge, prizes which if I’m recalling correctly went to St. John’s Catholic Primary and Antigua Girls High School. We haven’t teamed up since but we get their emails from time to time, and, as Antigua and Barbuda remain beneficiaries of their mission to help schools across the eastern Caribbean build and/or stock their libraries, it seems fitting to share those emails from time to time. Here’s the latest:
Dear Hands Supporter,
From today through Thanksgiving, You Can Quadruple Your Giving Power with our Four to One #GivingTuesday Matching Grant!
Three Hands donors have stepped up to match every donation from now through Thanksgiving. Your gift goes four times as far!
Hands Across the Sea is proud to announce that our 2015-2016 Hands Wish Lists shipment — 35,469 books, 56 sets of encyclopedias, 28 boxes of teaching resources, and 15 sets of metal bookshelves — has just been delivered to 103 Eastern Caribbean schools, libraries, reading programs, and youth centers, serving 22,704 children.
The 2015-2016 Hands Wish Lists shipment, which fulfills the “wish list” of books requested by educators, is the best — the highest quality, the most targeted — in Hands Across the Sea’s eight years of operation. To raise child literacy levels in a sustainable fashion, our CLASS (Caribbean Literacy and School Support) Program utilizes three steps: 1. Send New, Amazing Books; 2. Create/Rejuvenate Lending Libraries; and 3. Sustain the Literacy Gains.
Hands salutes the world-class publishers included in our 2015-2016 Hands Wish Lists shipment: Abrams-Amulet, Annick Press, Bamboo Talk Press, Campanita Books, Capstone Publishers, Caribbean Reads, DK Publishing, Hachette Book Group, HeyDay, High Interest Publishing, Highlights, Lee & Low Books, Macmillan Education, Papilotte Press, Pearson Education, Penguin Books, Random House, Rosen Publishing, Rosetta Press, Scholastic, Tiny Island Press, Townsend Press, and World Book.
Remember, from now till Thanksgiving your gift will be quadrupled thanks to our #GivingTuesday Matching Grant!
Thank you for your caring support of Caribbean children.
