Wadadli Pen Reading Rooms and Galleries

One of the longest running series on Wadadli Pen has been the Reading Room and Gallery series. It’s where I put works of art I vibed with in some way and wish to share with anyone who wants to sit for a while and just take in some art. Think of it like a trip to a gallery or an afternoon in a salon. It includes poetry, fiction, interviews, creatives on creating, videos, visual art, and more and more and more.

You can, for instance, read Harlem Renaissance icon Zora Neale Hurston’s short story ‘The Conscience of the Court’ in Reading Room and Gallery 19; hip hop veteran ?uestlove on NPR and Jamaican writer Geoffrey Philp on Geosi Reads in Reading Room and Gallery 16; interviews with Barbados’ Shakirah Bourne, Trinidad and Tobago’s Danielle Boodoo Fortune, and Clifton Joseph of Antigua-Barbuda and Canada in Reading Room and Gallery 18; fiction by Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez and an interview with Antiguan and Barbudan soca artiste Claudette ‘CP’ Peters in Reading Room and Gallery 17; interviews with beloved Irish writer Maeve Binchy and celebrated Jamaican-American poet Claudia Rankine, my (Joanne C. Hillhouse’) interview with Swedish TV in Reading Room15; interview with American fantasy writer Mary Robinette Kowal, poetry (‘Madness Disguises Sanity’) by Jamaican poet Opal Palmer Adisa, American horror pioneer Shirley Jackson’s short story ‘The Lottery’, and the oddly timely (given certain current twitter conversations) article by Leslie Jamison on mining real relationships for literary fodder in Reading Room 13; Trinidad-British writer Monique Roffey on developing a writing style in Reading Room 11; and so much more.

There are 42 entries in the series at this point (see Reading Room and Gallery 42) and I expect it to continue growing as I continue enjoying art.

I’ve been revisiting this series in whole because a project of the past few weeks has been migrating the video content from the series to the Wadadli Pen YouTube channel, and that is done. You can watch those videos, all 106 of them so far, here.

As with all content on wadadlipen.wordpress.com, except otherwise noted, this is written by Joanne C.
