As I start to write this, I have just received an acceptance email from the unlikeliest of places for a little poem rich with colloquialisms.
I think of that now as I venture in to this post on
because I recently received a note from a trusted beta reader advising me to cut some colloquialisms from a story. The piece, a work of fiction had already gone off, to sink or swim in the big big water of possibilities. I am not inclined to cut colloquialisms and now I wouldn’t have to stress over the decision. Because I do consider all notes, try to remove ego, and focus on what’s good for the story when editing or redrafting.
