Re-writing

As I start to write this, I have just received an acceptance email from the unlikeliest of places for a little poem rich with colloquialisms.

I think of that now as I venture in to this post on

because I recently received a note from a trusted beta reader advising me to cut some colloquialisms from a story. The piece, a work of fiction had already gone off, to sink or swim in the big big water of possibilities. I am not inclined to cut colloquialisms and now I wouldn’t have to stress over the decision. Because I do consider all notes, try to remove ego, and focus on what’s good for the story when editing or redrafting. Another beta, on reading that same piece, had remarked that it took longer to get in to it than it normally does with one of my pieces and that it was confusing…
